San Diego Comic-Con 2015 Survival Guide: Must-Try Food and Drink Specials

cookie recipeSan Diego Comic-Con has long been sold out, and if you’re not one of the thousands of people who got their hands on a coveted ticket, there are still plenty of ways to get in the game — at least food-wise. Several Downtown restaurants are hopping onboard the Comic-Con bandwagon by offering some awesome pop culture–inspired specials. Here’s a look at a few notable items.
Puesto Puesto at The Headquarters will offer the "El Heroe Taco" ($7), a fresh-made corn tortilla piled high with their signature cheese crust, lobster, filet mignon, avocado, crispy onions and chipotle salsa. Wash it down with "El Mezcalito" ($10), a refreshing take on a margarita featuring tamarind, mezcal and fresh lime leaves from the patio. 789 W. Harbor Dr. #155; 619-233-8880
Andaz San Diego Reach for the sky and avoid the crowds at this swanky rooftop bar, where they're adding three pop-culture cocktails to the menu. Choose from the cheeky "James Tea Kirk" (sweet tea, vodka and lemonade), "C-3PO" (Cointreau triple sec, tequila and orange juice) or "Iron Manhattan." 600 F St.; 619-849-1234
The Blind Burro Fill up on this East Village spot’s shark tacos ($15) being offered again this year just for the fest. Olive oil–poached mako shark, queso panela, pickled cabbage and roasted peach salsa work wonders together, especially when paired with the restaurant’s "Pop Bam Slam Mule" ($12) or "Kingslayer Sangria" ($12). 639 J St.; 619-798-7880
Searsucker San Diego Brian Marlarkey’s Gaslamp hideout is pulling out all the stops with several character-themed cocktails starting at $12. Choose from "Drax the Destroyer," "Lannister Lemonade," "Jenny Sparks" and "The Scarlet Witch," just to name a few. 611 Fifth Ave.; 619-233-7327
The US Grant Hotel The original location of Comic-Con will serve their own special cocktail, available at the hotel's Grant Grill. Sip on "Bitter Yoda" ($12), a concoction featuring Remy V. The Manchester Grant Hyatt Hop to this harborfront property for prime people-watching and a selection of fun cocktails (available until July 12) like the “The White Walker,” “Sharknado” or “Captain America” at $12 each. 1 Market Place; 619-232-1234
Bottega Americano Take a break from the craziness by heading to this East Village dining destination with two special Con drinks on tap: the “Ecto-Cooler,” a blend of pressed tangerine, 44 North Nectarine Vodka and white rum, or the “Girl on Fire” with Campari, dry vermouth, Prosecco and soda. The Cravory Point Loma’s premiere cookie maker is nowhere near the bustling conference, but they’re acknowledging the event with special character cookies.
